The CW has placed a pilot order for Gotham Knights, which follows Batman’s adopted son after the death of the Dark Knight, as The Hollywood Reporter, ahem, reported. If ordered to series, the comics drama will follow Batman’s “rebellious adopted son,” who “forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader.

Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams will write the series. Stoteraux and Fiveash will serve as executive producers with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden, while Abrams will co-executive produce. Danny Cannon will direct and executive produce the pilot.

No casting details were announced for the project, and it is unclear who the “rebellious adopted son” is, although Batman has a host of rebellious children/sidekicks in the comics, including Jason Todd/Red Hood and Damian Wayne/Robin.

Gotham Knights would be the second CW series to take place in Gotham City after Batwoman, which is currently airing its third season. The new series is not a spinoff of Batwoman and is not related to the upcoming Gotham Knights video game from WB Games Montréal and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

More to come.
