Keanu Reeves is weighing the possibility of directing BRZRKR, an upcoming film based on the comic he co-created with Matt Kindt. He says that, depending on how things go, there is a distinct possibility that he will end up directing BRZRKR, the upcoming live-action feature film based on his comic book series of the same name, in which he is set to star.

Reeves discussed Netflix’s film adaptation of BRZRKR, the script for which was recently completed by Mattson Tomlin. “I got it yesterday or two days ago. I haven’t read it yet,” Reeves said. The actor added that it’s still a bit too “early days” to consider a director, though confessed that he’s considered helming the film himself. In fact, according to Reeves, there is currently a “33 percent” chance that he will direct BRZRKR.

Ron Garney, artist of the original comic, thinks the Matrix stra would be perfect for the job. “Get that percentage up, man,” Garney said. “I mean, I think it’s all you. You should be doing it. Clint Eastwood does it. I mean, you can do it, I think you, it’s your thing.”

Published by BOOM! Studios, BRZRKR is created by Reeves and Matt Kindt. The two also write the comic, which is pencilled by the aforementioned Garney. It’s planned as a 12-issue maxi-series, with issue #11 due for publication later this year on Wednesday, Dec. 21. The comic follows Berzerker — or simply “B.” — an immortal warrior who is illustrated in Reeves’ likeness.

In March 2021 — shortly after the comic launched — Netflix announced that it was developing both a live-action feature film and an animated series based on BRZRKR, with Reeves attached to bring B. to life in the former. In October 2021, the aforementioned Tomlin was announced as the film’s screenwriter. Tomlin is no stranger to comic book adaptations, having previously co-written DC and Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Batman with director Matt Reeves.
