Susa Rodriguez-Garrido’s long-awaited 2023 solo exhibition is opening tomorrow, the 30th of March, at 5:00 pm at the Matrix Gallery on Udi Street, off Aso Drive, in the Asokoro District, Abuja. It has been a long time coming, as the artist worked towards it while curating over thirty (30) major exhibitions during the past three years, in Nigeria and abroad. Dubbed ‘Remember This Feeling’, it will feature a variety of the Spanish artist’s work across her signature styles, as well as some bold, new directions. She exclusively told GeekAfrique that: “It will feature a series of sculptures, installations, and audiovisual media art about dualism and the philosophical theory that the mental and the physical, the mind, and the body are in some sense, radically different kinds of concepts.”

The exhibition, she said, has been divided into three parts: “The same way that Plato divided the soul: the reason, the spirit, and the appetite. In one part, there are the sculptures, the main feature of the exhibition (reason); in another, the installations (spirit) and finally, the audio-visual media, including photography, video, and music (appetite).” Rodriguez-Garrido, a mainstay of the Abuja art scene for some years now, also said her vision is to release people’s creativity and enhance curiosity with her work.

Inarguably one of the most impactful curators in the Abuja art scene in the past five years, Rodriguez-Garrido founded Agama Art Publishing & Agency Ltd in 2018, an independent art publishing company and agency that represents and promotes African artists. She has also published a well-received book on notable buildings and architecture in Abuja.
