The Batman: HBO Max Catwoman spinoff series ‘being discussed’

The Batman director Matt Reeves wants to build out the world of the movie and says a Catwoman spinoff series starring Zoë Kravitz has been discussed.

A number of The Batman spinoff series have been announced for HBO Max, director Matt Reeves says more could be on the way, specifically one that would tell the story of Catwoman, played by Zoë Kravitz. At a press conference, he revealed: “I’ve talked to the HBO Max folks. What we’re really trying to do is to launch this world. If the world embraces this, we have a lot of ideas for things we want to do, and for sure we want Selena to continue.”

Even if a Catwoman spinoff is said to depend on the success of the film, that doesn’t ring true for other spinoffs. An HBO Max prequel series focusing on the Gotham City Police Department was ordered, and rumor has it Batman and the Joker will play key roles. Penguin is getting his own show, with Colin Farrell reprising his role.

Reeves, who also co-wrote the script, spoke about how central the connection between Kravitz’s Selena and Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne/Batman is to the film. “Their relationship and what they are to each other… to me, that’s the heart of the movie, is the push-pull between the two of them and the way that she’s going to evolve, and where all of that will go.”

But while Reeves certainly seems keen to explore things further, he said it all depends on how well The Batman does when it finally hits theaters. “We’re talking about a lot of things, but of course, all of it depends on… we’re about to release this movie, and it really comes down to how people receive it,” Reeves said.

You can catch Kravitz as Selena Kyle when The Batman hits theaters March 4.
