The cast of Prime Video’s upcoming ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ series acted as on-set babysitters for cast member Sophia Nomvete’s newborn infant daughter. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she revealed that she was cast for her role as the Dwarven princess Disa in the series mere days after her daughter was born. Once filming on The Rings of Power began, several of Nomvete’s costars provided assistance to her and her husband.

The actress, who has South African and Iranian origins, said: “It took a village, and [my daughter] was raised by everyone and knew everyone. People were learning how to change nappies. It was amazing.”

Robert Aramayo, who will play Elrond Half-elven in the upcoming series, jokingly added, “I can’t believe I’m capable of babysitting, but apparently I am.”

Babysitting is just one of the ways in which the cast supported one another during production, and they described the close-knit bond that they all developed as a “fellowship.”

The cast of the upcoming prequel series seemingly became united throughout production. Overall, the show itself has displayed a commitment to creating a diverse cast, as well as a more diverse take on Middle-earth than seen in previous adaptations of JRR Tolkien’s work.

The Rings of Power’ was designed as a five-season series that will take place thousands of years before Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy. Another major first for The Rings of Power is its diverse cast, which features multiple people of colour portraying elves and dwarves. ‘It will premiere on Prime Video on Sept. 2, 2022.
